News Article Majorca may soon introduce smoking ban
Thursday 20th Aug 2009 at 15:27
People who enjoy spending their vacation time in bars and restaurants but do not like passively inhaling cigarette fumes may soon have reason to choose a holiday to Majorca.

This is because officials in the region are calling for a smoking ban to be introduced on the island, the Majorca Daily Bulletin relayed.

Balearic health minister Vincenc Thomas has voiced his wish, but reportedly suggested it would be the country''s central government that would have the final say.

The column claims his assertion was a reaction to Spain''s health minister''s recent comments that the nation is "mature enough" to put a stop to puffing in public places.

Mr Thomas explained the move would bring the Mediterranean land masses in line with other vacation destinations such as Italy and Germany, where the law is now in place.

In the UK, the legislation came into effect on July 1st 2007, in an attempt to improve the health of Britons and avoid issues with passive smoking.ADNFCR-917-ID-19322382-ADNFCR
