Thursday 13th Aug 2009 at 17:40
People could be encouraged to book a cheap flight to Majorca after reading about recent praise for the holiday destination.

Writing on the New York Times'' In Transit blog, David G Allan said Palma was "charming but small" and highlighted its abundance of restaurants and hotels.

He pointed towards a trip taken to the Balearic island by one of his colleagues at the news provider, Penelope Green, earlier this year.

In her article, Ms Green recounted trips to Bar Dia and La Bodeguilla, describing the latter as quiet and well-decorated.

Food fans may also wish to take a 40-minute drive out of the capital city to the village of Orient, home to the Mandala eatery, she added. Among the dishes she recommended was lamb and red wine sauce.

Ms Green also suggested vacationers could enjoy a hike near Deia in the north-west of the island, revealing it is a popular haunt of the rich and famous.
