Time Zone Time Zone: GMT + 1 (GMT + 2 from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October).
Weather Majorca's climate is typically Mediterranean with warm temperatures and seasonal rain. Summer in Majorca is both hot and dry with temperatures occasionally reaching over 30 degrees and averaging between 16 degrees and 18 degrees daily with a maximum average between 29 degrees and 31 degrees. While winter is humid and mild the rest of the year is relatively warm. Majorca is the only place in the world where the temperature at the sea bed never drops below 13ºC and this is due to its geographical make up which also causes the temperature to vary little through the year.
Language The local language in Majorca is Catalan although the Catalan spoken is different to the Catalan spoken in other areas such as the rest of the Balearic Islands. There is also a slight difference in dialect between the Majorcan localities, and sometimes the local language is referred to as "Mallorcan". Most people are found to speak Spanish in bars and shops along with English and German.
Flight Time The approximate flight time from London to Palma de Mallorca is 2 hours 15 minutes.
Airports The main airport is Palma de Mallorca airport and is situated 11km (7 miles) south east of Palma. The airport itself is made up of only 1 terminal which is ultra modern and caters for all passengers. The airport also provides a variety of facilities as well as a 24 hour duty free shop, bars, car hire facilities and much more. There is also a car park which provides spaces for over 5000 cars.
Currency The official Majorcan currency is the Euro and the coins in circulation in Majorca are 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents. The paper bills on the other hand are made up off 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Euros. There are many banks in Majorca, banking hours are Mon-Fri 0900-1400, Sat 0900-1300 and there are also 24 hour cash machines situated around the city and resorts too.

Communications Pay phones are either blue or green and accept either coins or phone cards, which are sold at post offices, tobacco shops, and newsagents. Three mobile phone operators provide thorough GSM 900/1800 coverage throughout the Balearic Islands. Email and internet access is available at internet cafes in most towns and resorts.
Passport Information A passport is required to enter Majorca and must be valid for 3 months after date of departure, however it is recommended that your passport is valid for at least 6 months. A return or onward ticket is required, along with sufficient funds for your stay in Majorca. Contact your consulate before travelling.
Visa
Information
No visa is required for a maximum stay of 90 days for those holding a passport endorsed British Citizen, European Community, British Dependent Territories Citizen or British Subject. Other UK passport holders require a visa and a passport valid at least three months beyond visa expiry date.
Health & Safety/Vaccinations There are no vaccination requirements for any International Traveller, however please consult your doctor/nurse before travelling. Health facilities are generally of a good standard.
EHIC (old E111) A European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) entitles you to reduced-cost, sometimes free, medical treatment that becomes necessary while you're in Majorca. This is a free card that you should submitted about 6 weeks before you plan to leave to allow the card to reach you on time. Travel insurance is also require on top of this to cover all situations and emergencies.

Duty Free There are no limits on what you can buy and take with you when you travel between EU countries, as long as it is for personal use and not for resale. For guidance, goods are considered to be for your own use if you have no more than: 800 cigarettes, 400 cigarillos, 200 cigars, 1kg of tobacco, 10 litres of spirits 20 litres fortified wine, (such as port or sherry), 90 litres of wine (of which, a maximum of 60 litres of sparkling wine) and 110 litres of beer The price you pay includes VAT and duty, since these vary from country to country, you may be able to pick up some cheap goods. Shops at airports and on ships may also provide some tax free bargains although duty-free shopping no longer exists when travelling with the EU.
Electricity The electricity supply in Majorca is 220v, 50Hz. Standard European 2 rounded pin plugs are used.
Tipping Because of the 10% service charge levied in hotels and restaurants, a tip is not obligatory, but small change is always welcome. Taxi-drivers, porters, hairdressers etc., always appreciate a small tip.
Food & Drink Food and drinking water are of high quality and safe. Tap water is safe to drink though mineral water is cheap and available everywhere. Like in all countries different products may be used when preparing foods, to be on the safe side ensure vegetables are cooked and fruit peeled. Only eat well-cooked meat and fish, preferably served hot. Majorcan food is generally meat (pork) and bread orientated.
Postal Services There are efficient internal and international postal services to all countries. Airmail within Europe usually takes around five days. Poste Restante facilities are available at main post offices. Stamps can be bought in post offices which are also situated around the island.
Driving in Majorca The well maintained good quality Majorcan roads provide a connection between the different areas in the country. However if you want to hire a car in Majorca you need to be over 21 years of age. Use of a mobile phone is strictly prohibited. Visitors in Majorca can drive using a valid International driving licence, or their British driving licence, provided it is valid for the class of vehicle they wish to drive. All road signs on Majorca are international, except for the 'give way' sign, which reads ceda el paso. The motoring laws below are strictly enforced:
- Right of way must be given to any vehicle coming from your right, except at roundabouts and where otherwise indicated;
- Front-seat passengers must wear seat belts, and children are not permitted in the front seats until they are old enough to wear seat belts;
- Unbroken lines in the centre of the road must not be crossed;
- Three-point turns and reversing into side streets are forbidden in built-up areas;
- Parking facing oncoming traffic is prohibited; also parking on any very narrow or one-way roads;
- Speed limits vary: 120km/h on motorways, 110km/h on 'C' roads, 90km/h on other roads, and 40km/h (unless otherwise is indicated) in towns and villages.
